The "Call Me By your Name" Summer
Iβve been waking up every day and going straight to my piano to practice music for the past week Iβve had it. I canβt help but think it fits a sort of βaestheticsβ that could be found on Pinterest. Seeing someone with messy hair and a tank top just waking up to indulge themself in music. It has me thinking back to the Call Me By Your Name summer aesthetic. For the past couple of years during the summer that is all that takes up my feed. Always somewhere in the northern part of Europe where you can feel the summer heat, the wind of the ocean, and the freshest fruits.Β
Summer brings a new sort of need for companionship. With more free time in people's hands, what else would they want to do but go out and enjoy life? I hear my friends wish they had a summer fling so they could have someone to do stuff with. But I find I hang out with my friends more than my partner in these last few weeks, I blame the fact they live farther away than anyone else. And it always has to be a summer fling, what is so romantic about summer we have to create whole aesthetics and wants over it?
Even in the well-known movie, it is a summer fling, more commonly called a European fling. Maybe it is the constant sun that shines overhead of you with the long days, going to the beach or pool, indulging in your hobbies, and being more social. It is said that summer is the best season to fall in love. However, I believe many people forget this movie ends in heartbreak after summer ends. A life-altering, you WILL be thinking about this forever heartbreak. So do people even want the love that is shown in the movie or a sort of feeling you get seeing people live their fantasy life with the βdreamβ love?Β
As this trend gets more popular by the year I canβt help but feel like I have fallen face forward into the trend and continue to do so. The vibe of this aesthetic is a warm feeling, itβs classy but fun. But even so, you really are not able to forget the controversy that comes with this movie. And I donβt just mean the actor of Oliver, Armie Hammer. This movie and the book are supposed to represent a young and naive love even so, did we really need the age gap of 17 and 24 to make the vision come true? Especially when considering the eroticism in the film as well even though it truly ties the story together. At any age, people can experience young and naive love, especially in Elio's stance. I mean, if that was truly the issue then shouldnβt Oliver's age be reduced?Β
Nonetheless, a Call Me By Your Name summer should include fresh fruits, biking, swimming, exploring, reading, playing music, playing sports, partying, family breakfast and dinners, and an all-consuming heartbreak. Although people have a vast view of this film, you cannot deny its cinematography and music. As always, you must read the book of this film. I believe it is somehow more beautiful than the movie itself as you dive into Elio's thoughts more.Β
